The Business Licence Unit serves to collect revenue from those operating businesses in The Bahamas through Business Licence fees. Any person who owns or operates a business in The Bahamas is required to apply for and obtain a business licence in compliance with the Business Licence Act 2010. The types of licences include Annual, Temporary and Occasional. Applications are completed online at vat.revenue.gov.bs. Supporting documents and approvals from other agencies are required when completing the online application. The processing time is within seven business days. Once an application is approved and payment has been received, business owners can print their own Business Licence(s) online. Annual Business Licences expire December 31 and must be renewed.
The Business Licence Department is located at the Department of Inland Revenue on Carmichael Road behind the Shops at Carmichael Plaza- Nassau, Bahamas. In addition to Nassau, the Department has branch offices in:
- Freeport, Grand Bahama
- Marsh Harbour, Abaco
- Lower Bogue, Eleuthera
- Hooper’s Bay, Exuma.
- Simms, Long Island
